Everyone has the right to live a happy, healthy and pain-free life. Your journey to optimal health starts here.

Kamloops, BC | Kelowna, BC

Find a qualified cosmetic injector in BC. The must-know qualifications, training, legal requirements—and red flags to avoid—for safer, natural-looking botox, dermal filler and biostimulators.

If you’re considering cosmetic injections and live in BC, this guide is for you. Finding the right provider for your neuromodulators (Botox®Cosmetic, Nuceiva®, Dysport®), dermal filler and biostimulators is essential for effective, natural-looking and most importantly, safe cosmetic injections.

My name is Dr. Kaleb Falk, ND and I’m a Naturopathic Doctor and cosmetic injector serving patients across Kamloops, Kelowna, and Sicamous. That said, this guide is to help anyone in looking to book cosmetic injections across British Columbia do so with a reputable provider.

Who can administer cosmetic injections in BC? What qualifications should my cosmetic injector have? What red flags should I be aware of? How do I know if a cosmetic injector is “good”? Which credentials actually mean something? How do I find a cosmetic injector that aligns with my aesthetic values?

My main priority (and passion) as both a Naturopathic Doctor and cosmetic injector is providing my patients the information they need to make the best decision for themselves—and ultimately, help them live in their optimal wellbeing.

Allow this to be your guide, without the jargon, so you can make an informed decision on who to book your cosmetic injections with in BC. And feel free to share this resource with any friends and family looking to do the same. Let’s keep everyone safe and happy with their cosmetic injections.

Who can legally provide cosmetic injections in BC?

In BC, regulated health professionals with the right training can administer cosmetic injections. This includes physicians, nurse practitioners, and dentists. But being a medical professional alone doesn’t automatically qualify someone. They must also complete specific, approved training in cosmetic injections. If you are booking cosmetic injections in BC, you’ll want to book with a provider with one of the following set of credentials:

Naturopathic Doctors (NDs)

Allowed: Yes, with certifications.

Requirements:

  1. Must be licensed with the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC.
  2. Must hold Prescriptive Authority.
  3. Must complete and maintain specific certifications from CNPBC:
    • Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin
    • Injectable Fillers

Must maintain life support qualifications (e.g., Naturopathic Advanced Life Support).

Nurse Practitioners (NPs)

Allowed: Yes.

Requirements:

  1. Must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  2. Must complete additional education in cosmetic injectables.
  3. Must comply with BCCNM scope of practice and standards.
Registered Nurses (RNs)

Allowed: Yes, with conditions.

Requirements:

  1. Must complete additional, recognized training in aesthetic injectables.
  2. Must work under a client-specific order from a physician or NP.

The ordering provider must be present or immediately available during procedures.

Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)

Allowed: Yes, with conditions.

Requirements:

  1. Must complete additional, recognized training in aesthetic injectables.
  2. Must have a client-specific order from a physician or NP.
  3. The ordering provider must be present or immediately available.
Dentists

Allowed: Yes.

Requirements:

  1. Must be licensed with the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP).
  2. Botox and dermal fillers are now within dental scope (as of 2025).
  3. Must complete accredited Botox/filler training approved by BCCOHP.
  4. Typically focused on orofacial regions, but scope now includes broader cosmetic applications with proper certification.

Pro tip: If you’re ever unsure about an injector’s qualifications, you can look them up on their regulator’s public website. Every regulated professional has to be listed:

If you can’t find their name on the official register, that means they aren’t licensed—and it’s safest not to book with them. Finding an individual on one of these public registrars alone, is not enough to deem it safe to book your cosmetic injections with them. We’ll get into what exactly to look for further into this guide.

Who is NOT allowed to perform cosmetic injections in BC?

For your safety, only regulated health professionals with proper training and certification can perform injections. If someone isn’t licensed or certified, they are not allowed — and that puts you at risk of harm with no legal or insurance protection. Those not permitted include:

  1. Estheticians – Not regulated health professionals; cannot inject Botox, dermal fillers, or any other prescription injectables.
  2. Medical Office Assistants / Spa Staff – Administrative or support staff are not authorized to provide injections.
  3. Unlicensed / Unregulated Individuals – Anyone not licensed with a regulatory college (e.g., CPSBC, BCCNM, BCCOHP, CNPBC) is prohibited.
  4. Delegated Non-Regulated Persons – Regulated professionals may not delegate cosmetic injections to unlicensed persons under any circumstances.

What qualifications do cosmetic injectors need in BC?

Here is your checklist of qualifications to help ensure you are booking with a fully certified, reputable cosmetic injector in BC:

Regulated Health Professional Status
  • Must be registered/licensed with the regulatory college. For naturopathic doctors, that is the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC (formerly the CNPBC).
  • If doing cosmetic injectables, must hold Full Registration (not just student or provisional) with liability / malpractice insurance
Prescriptive Authority (for injectables like botulinum toxin / neuromodulators)
  • The practitioner must have the certification for Prescriptive Authority. Without that, they can’t legally prescribe or administer certain prescription drugs.
Certification for Specific Injectables
  • A practitioner must obtain College-approved certifications for each type of injectable they offer:
Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin / Neuromodulators certification.
  •  • Injectable Fillers certification. The scope (which areas of the face, which types of filler) depends on the level of certification.
Approved Training Courses
  • Training must be in courses approved by the College. For example:
    • Level 1 and Level 2 botulinum toxin courses (online + practical / clinical components) for NDs for Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin.
    • A “Basic Dermal Filler” course (e.g. “Level 4 Basic Dermal Filler”) for injectable fillers.
  • Courses must include topics such as facial anatomy, injection technique, complications and safety protocols.
Life Support / Safety Training
  • Must hold valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) training for healthcare providers.
  • For certain certifications, Advanced Life Support or “Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS)” is required
Maintaining Certifications & Continuing Education
  • Regular renewal / maintenance of certifications. This includes refresher safety courses, staying current on best practices / complication management.
  • For NDs specifically, there are “Practice Standard: Certifications” documents which list the required ongoing training, proof of continuing education, etc.
Limitations / Scope‐of‐Areas Based on Certification Level
  • Depending on what level of certification someone has, they may be limited in where in the face they can inject fillers or neuromodulators. Some areas require more advanced training.
  • Use only Health Canada approved products, being mindful of the brand of dermal filler, neuromodulator, or biostimulator as Canada’s approved products do differ from the United States.
Legal / Regulatory Oversight
  • Must comply with the Naturopathic Physicians Regulation, and related bylaws, standards, limits and conditions as set by the College.
  • Also subject to professional liability / indemnity insurance.

What qualifications do cosmetic injectors need in Canada?

When it comes to cosmetic injections—botox, dermal fillers, and biostimulators—in Canada, the same rule remains across the country: only regulated health professionals can administer them. Each province and territory has its own regulatory college or board that defines the scope of practice and education requirements, so while details vary across the country, the core principles remain consistent.

Completion of approved training or certification is always required.

Many private or introductory workshops exist, but unless the program is recognized by your professional college, it does not qualify an injector. Colleges require comprehensive training that covers anatomy, complication management, supervised hands-on practice, and safe prescribing—far beyond what a standard weekend course might offer.

Every regulated injector must follow their professional college’s standards.

This means having clear and thorough informed consent discussions with patients, ensuring treatments take place in a safe and appropriate medical setting, and having protocols in place to manage any adverse events or complications. Colleges also set rules for professionalism in how services are advertised. For example, things like “flash sale” botox promotions, aggressive discounting, or unapproved/off-label marketing claims are considered unsafe or misleading and are not permitted.

How can I tell if a cosmetic injector is “good”?

This is one of the most important questions you can ask before booking treatment. With so many providers out there, the difference between a safe, natural result and a poor experience often comes down to five key criteria:

Licensed & Registered

As we spoke about earlier in this guide in great detail, your injector should be a regulated health professional and listed with their governing college. This is the foundation of safe, legal practice.

Certified Training

Injections require more than just holding a syringe—they demand detailed knowledge of anatomy, technique, and complication management. Some programs are weekend intensives, and that’s fine as long as they’re recognized by the professional college and include supervised, hands-on practice.

Aesthetic Philosophy

Everyone has their own idea of beauty. Some people want a dramatic change, others prefer subtle adjustments. My philosophy always errs on the side of natural—balanced results that don’t look overdone. A good injector will even say no if what you’re asking for isn’t in the best interest of your facial integrity. Ask about their approach, and review before/after photos to make sure their style matches what you want.

Transparent Practice

A good injector will walk you through informed consent, provide clear pricing, and give you time to ask questions. What’s not fine is choosing an injector based solely on price. Don’t feel pressured into buying more than you need, and be cautious of Groupon-style deals—they’re often too good to be true.

Supervision & Safety

Safety is non-negotiable. Your injector should use Health Canada–approved products and have emergency protocols in place. For example, in the rare case of a vascular complication, having hyaluronidase on hand (the enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid filler) can prevent serious harm.

At the end of the day, a “good” injector isn’t the one promising the cheapest deal or the most dramatic transformation. It’s the one who respects your goals, values your safety, and helps you look like yourself—only refreshed and more confident.

Why I offer cosmetic injections as a Naturopathic Doctor

Naturopathic Doctors in BC (like myself) can provide aesthetic neuromodulators and fillers when we hold College-approved certifications and prescriptive authority. I know some people are surprised to hear “Naturopathic Doctor” and “cosmetic injector” in the same sentence. And honestly, that surprise makes sense—most people still limit NDs to only offering nutrition, acupuncture, or herbal medicine.

But here’s why that surprise works in your favour: my naturopathic background means I bring a holistic, anatomy-focused lens to cosmetic injections. I don’t just inject product. I consider how your unique facial structure, balance, and proportions work together, so your results look natural and support your long-term health.

If you’ve followed my posts, you know my path into aesthetics wasn’t by accident. Before treating faces, I treated veins, joints, and over 2,000 IVs. That injection experience gave me steady hands and a deep respect for anatomy. Now, combined with advanced certifications in dermal fillers, biostimulators, and safety protocols, I use that same precision in the aesthetic setting.

At the end of the day, offering cosmetic injections as a Naturopathic Doctor isn’t about chasing trends or making people look “done.” It’s about helping you feel confident in your skin while aligning treatment with the holistic values that guide the rest of my practice. The surprise you might feel at the start quickly becomes reassurance when you see how naturopathic training adds depth, safety, and balance to every treatment.

Dr. Kaleb Falk, ND | BC Cosmetic Injector Education & Certifications

Prior to starting in the field of aesthetics I had administered over 2000 IVs (starting in 2013) and have been doing extremity injections (prolotherapy and PRP) for over 6 years. This hands-on experience with needles and injections allowed me to transition into aesthetics with great confidence.

Though Naturopathic Doctors are legally able to offer cosmetic injections in BC, additional training is required to do so. Over the last five years, I’ve invested in extensive specialized training with leading institutions and industry experts to continuously improve my skills as a cosmetic injector. Along with numerous webinars and peer reviews with fellow injectors, here are some of the additional trainings and certifications I have received:

The International Institute of Aesthetic Medicine (IIAM) Botulinum Training (2020)
