Looking for botox in Kamloops, BC? Avoid these common red flags when choosing your cosmetic injector and protect yourself from botched botox.
When you search “botox in Kamloops” a few concerning stories will populate from those seeking botox injections in our community. As both a Naturopathic Physician and cosmetic injector serving Kamloops, I feel it is my duty to provide as much accessible education as possible so that individuals can make informed decisions best for their wellbeing. Whether you choose me as your cosmetic injector, or another Kamloops provider, it’s important that you ask yourself these questions and do what’s best for you.
Why is Kamloops known for botched botox?
Despite what may populate in your search, Kamloops isn’t “known” for bad cosmetic injections, but an isolated provider did impact dozens and dozens of Kamloops residents when illegally performing botox and dermal filler. What we can learn from the highly publicized case is to verify your cosmetic injectors qualifications to ensure your procedures are done by someone with proper training or licensing.

What does the term botched botox even mean?
Most people think botched botox looks dramatic—frozen, overdone, no movement. But more often, it’s much more subtle. It’s when your results don’t look or feel as intended. Maybe the brows sit a little heavier than expected, movement feels uneven, or your expression just doesn’t match what you asked for. Technically, it may have “worked,” but something feels off.
That’s because neuromodulators don’t just soften lines—they change how your face moves. And your face doesn’t move in isolated sections. If treatment is done without understanding how those movements connect, it’s easy to create imbalance. Treat the forehead without considering the brows, or the frown without understanding compensation patterns, and you can shift movement into other areas of the face—sometimes even creating new lines or making others more noticeable.

Looking for botox in Kamloops?
If you’re looking to get botox in Kamloops, try not to choose a provider based on the closest clinic or the lowest price.
Instead, prioritize choosing a provider who focuses on:
- Proper assessment — not just where lines are, but how your face moves and compensates
- Medical training and credentials — someone licensed, trained, and working within their scope
- Clear, thoughtful planning — they can explain exactly what they’re treating and why
- Restraint — using the minimum effective approach, not selling you more than you need
- A real consultation — not rushed, not transactional, and not just “how many units?”
Remember “botox is a general term used for the four neuromodulators approved in Canada: Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® and Nuceiva™. You should always feel comfortable asking your provider which brand they will be using and why.

How can I spot a bad cosmetic injector in Kamloops?
Beyond trusting your intuition, ask yourself these questions.
1. During your in-person consultation, are they assessing your face in motion?
Many cosmetic injector will do so by asking you to frown, smile and even just watching your facial movement while you speak. They’ll look for things like:
- how your brows lift
- how strong your frown is
- what your forehead is compensating for
If an injector is able to begin treatment or provide an estimated number of units without really looking at how your face moves, walk out. If this step is skipped or rushed, everything that follows is built on a weak foundation, and a lack of understanding of your facial anatomy.
2. Is your treatment plan explained clearly ahead of injections?
You should understand:
- what’s being treated
- why it’s being treated
- what it will (and won’t) do
- the number or units/price range your treatment falls in
- any complications or medical history that may impact your botox
If someone can’t explain any of the above to you, as the patient, or if they get defensive, they probably don’t fully understand it themselves. A good sign to look for is when your provider begins marketing your face for injection sites based on your specific movement. This facial mapping is very important and will allow both of you to understand the treatment to follow. You should never hesitate to ask your provider questions. They should be able to answer and without being defensive.
3. Is your Kamloops cosmetic injector actually qualified to be injecting botox?
As much as we’d like to believe this is obvious, our community’s history has shown that it isn’t always. In British Columbia, botulinum toxin is a prescription medication. It’s meant to be administered by licensed healthcare providers with proper training and authority. That means your provider should be:
- A licensed physician with relevant medical education and training in these procedures
- A nurse practitioner who is authorized to provide or order medical aesthetic procedures and is practising within BCCNM requirements
- A licensed dentist with appropriate education and training in facial injectables who is practising within the scope of dentistry in BC
- A naturopathic doctor who holds Prescriptive Authority, Cosmetic Botulinum Toxin certification, and current Naturopathic Advanced Life Support (NALS)
- A licensed nurse with additional medical aesthetics training who is administering the treatment under a valid client-specific order, with the ordering or responsible health professional present in the facility and immediately available during the procedure
Your provider should be licensed, specifically trained in cosmetic injections, and clearly practising within their regulated scope in BC. If you are unable to verify them in a public registry or can’t easily confirm their credentials, do not book cosmetic injections with them.
As previously mentioned, there have been cases in Kamloops involving illegal cosmetic injectors. This is not isolated to just Kamloops of course, but it’s just that reminder we need to be on the look out for cosmetic injector red flags.
4. Are they willing to say no?
Even if you can verify a provider is legally able to inject, it does not mean they are the right cosmetic injector for you. A red flag I warn my loved ones to beware of (especially those who don’t live close enough to just see me for their cosmetic injections) is the providers that say “yes” to everything. If someone always agrees to everything you ask for, that’s not a good sign. As a cosmetic injector, it is my responsibility to ensure your facial integrity and that means saying “no” if I don’t believe it’s in your best interest. This could be a full subject in itself, but “filler dysophia” is a real issue for some patients.

As a cosmetic injector, some of the biggest red flags for me are patients who focus on cost first, jump between injectors, or come in trying to self-diagnose what they need. Good results come from consistency, reassessment, and follow-up, because that’s how I can truly individualize your treatment over time.
