Welcome to the new age of dermal fillers.
A new wave of dermal filler treatments is here and it involves more than just lip filler. After an influx of individuals seeking cosmetic injections after the years spent staring at ourselves on Zoom during the pandemic, I also saw an influx of individuals coming to me from other injectors with unnatural results. Why? Those new to injections “just wanted their lips done” or “just a little more volume in the cheeks” and cosmetic injectors listened without considering the repercussions of not treating the entire face.
When it comes to facial balancing using dermal fillers, I believe in taking a holistic approach that considers the entirety of your face rather than focusing solely on individual features. Why? Treating singular areas without considering the surrounding facial features leads to unnatural looking results. With facial balancing,I aim to enhance your overall facial harmony and symmetry so that you get the beautiful results you’re after, but without looking like you’re wearing a real-life glamour filter. Here’s my approach to dermal fillers in Kelowna and Kamloops, BC.
What is facial balancing?
Facial balancing with dermal fillers is all about restoring volume and symmetry in a way that considers the face as a whole instead of individual features. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I carefully assess your facial structure, looking for areas that may have lost volume due to aging or where there’s asymmetry. By strategically injecting fillers into multiple areas of the face, such as the cheeks, temples, lips, chin, and jawline, we are able to achieve a more youthful, yet extremely natural, result. I know what you may be thinking, “But Dr. Kaleb, I only want to add a bit of volume in my lips, do I really need to treat other areas?” Good question and no, not necessarily. There are certain cases where I do treat patients for individual areas; however, it is my responsibility to let my patients know when it’s gone too far and other areas need to be addressed before moving forward. For example, when too much volume is added to the lips, the chin can begin to look recessed. In this case, I recommend the power couple: chin filler and lip filler. And that is just one example. Many patients are surprised when I recommend these less commonly known dermal filler sites. When you choose me as your cosmetic injector, the goal is always to enhance your unique features not to create an overdone, “fake” look, so you feel like the best version of yourself.
Who is best suited for facial balancing?
To be blunt, if you’re looking for over-the-top, unrealistic dermal filler results, facial balancing with dermal filler is NOT for you. Facial balancing offers a 360-approach to dermal filler suitable for anyone looking to enhance their natural features while still looking like themselves. Facial balancing is tailored to your facial anatomy and the results you want to achieve. Whether you’re in your thirties, fifties or beyond, I invite you to book a consultation with me at one of my five Kamloops or Kelowna locations to learn more.
Are there any risks to using dermal fillers for facial balancing?
While dermal fillers are generally safe when administered by an experienced professional (click here to learn about who should NOT be allowed to inject your face), there are some potential side effects to consider. These can include temporary swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection site. In rare cases, there could be an allergic reaction or infection, which is why I only use FDA-approved fillers and maintain strict sterile procedures. Before treatment, we’ll discuss your medical history and expectations to minimize risks. I’ll also guide you through post-procedure care so you know exactly what to expect as you heal and enjoy your revitalized appearance.
What is a top-down approach to facial balancing?
Think of top-down facial balancing as a strategic game plan to enhance your overall look from forehead to chin. It starts with assessing and treating areas like your temples and mid-face to lift and add volume where needed. From there, we might focus on defining your cheeks, sculpting your jawline, or enhancing your lips and chin to create a harmonious balance across your entire face. When approaching your dermal filler treatments, not only am I thinking top-down but I’m also thinking about 360. You’ll often see me moving from front to side, looking at your face from every angle. That is because that’s life! Like I said, gone are the days when your face is being looked at from a straight-on, Zoom angle. Profile balancing is just as important.
How long does facial balancing last?
Results from facial balancing with dermal fillers can vary from person to person based on factors like the type of filler used and your body’s metabolism. Typically dermal fillers can keep you looking refreshed anywhere from six months to 2 years or more. Some clients find they need touch-up treatments to maintain their desired look over time—specifically to more high-movement areas, such as the lips, which tend to metabolize quicker. I personally trust and use Revanesse® dermal fillers because of the spherical shape of the Revanesse ® particles is developed to be perfectly tolerated by the body and decompose slowly over time, meaning your results last longer. That being said, factors right down to sun exposure and how often you exercise can also influence how long your results last. During our consultation, I’ll give you personalized recommendations and a treatment plan that suits your lifestyle, your budget and the results you want to achieve.
What’s the difference between facial balancing and profile balancing?
Facial balancing and profile balancing are like two sides of the same coin, both focused on enhancing your facial appearance but in different ways. Facial balancing looks at your face with a 360 lens, aiming to restore volume, refine contours, and bring symmetry. Profile balancing, as it sounds, zooms in on your side profile, addressing specific areas like your nose, chin, lips and jawline. So technically, if you are coming to me for facial balancing, you are also coming to me for profile balancing. In my experience, patients tend to begin with profile balancing and after seeing how natural and impactful the results are, move onto full face rejuvenation or facial balancing.
Is it true that unnatural results are from using too much filler?
Let’s put it this way: It’s true that natural-looking results depend on using the right amount of filler in the right places. There’s a common misconception that more filler equals more unnatural results, but the point here is that when you approach dermal filler treatments holistically rather than “just treating the lips” or “just treating the cheeks,” results actually look a lot more natural because the face is balanced. Overdoing it can lead to a look that’s overly plumped or doesn’t quite match your natural facial contours.
I prioritize a conservative approach to ensure your results are beautifully balanced and enhance your natural features. By carefully assessing your facial structure and discussing your goals, we can achieve a harmonious outcome that makes you feel confident and radiant. Transparency and communication are key, so I’ll guide you through every step to ensure we achieve the look you desire while preserving your unique facial expressions and personality.
Why I Trust Revanesse® Dermal Fillers
I choose and trust Revanesse® dermal fillers for their exceptional quality, safety, and consistent results—plus, they are Canadian! Formulated with hyaluronic acid, these fillers effectively hydrate and plump the skin, addressing various aesthetic concerns with precision. There are several formulas within this line, each specifically formulated to address certain facial features. During your facial balancing treatment, I will likely switch between a couple, if not a few, of these formulas: Revanesse®Ultra, Revanesse® Lips+, Revanesse® Contour, etc. I also trust Restylane® filler specifically for the delicate area under the eyes. As facial balancing looks at the face holistically, it also means other treatments like Sculptra®, Restylane® Skinboosters™ or neuromodulators (botox) can be incorporated into your treatment for a comprehensive approach. We just talked about a lot here, so if you’re overwhelmed, I get it. Do not hesitate to book in for a chat so we can review everything IRL.
